SECTION 7.0
FAILIIRE ANALYSIS
7.1 EQUIPMENT FAILURE
The following paragraphs describe the conshquences of
failure of each of the equipment items in the p#I Adjustment
System.
pH Adjustment Tank Agitator (04-AG-09)
Mechanical or electrical failure of the agitato~ will result
in a reduction in the level of mixing within he tank. A
fault stop of this drive does not cause any of er drive to
stop. The slurry in the tank is agitated b the large
volume of air provided by blower 04-CP-03 v a the four
sparge pipes. Operation of the system can co tinue until
it is convenient to shut it down for repair. Failure of the
agitator does not present a hazard.
Carbon Safety Screen (04-8C-10)
Failure of the Carbon Safety Screen necessita
of feed to the plant. The pH Adjustment System
in sequence in the normal way. The agitator
run to maintain suspension of the solids. T1
does not constitute a hazard. However, precaut
1 taken to prevent exposure of personnel to i
J during repair of the screen. Refer to Sect
details.
J pH Adjustment Blower (04-CP-03)
Failure of the blower stops the flow of air int
in the pH Adjustment Tank. The Sulfuric Acid M
stops, the pH increases and HCN stripping cease
Scrubber continues to run to absorb any x
1 evolved. The agitator continues to run
J suspension of the solids. The situation does nc
a hazard.
