Honorable Bruce Babbitt
September 30, 1994
Page 2
authorities. Indeed, this reclamation project has, at one time,
met even the test of the Department of Interior itself!
I would also take this opportunity to provide you with my
personal experience with Rerr Coal. I have known its Chief
Executive Officer, John Adams, for many years. He is among the
most honorable and sincere men I have ever met. He is a fine and
thoughtful person. He has managed Kerr Coal Company in a manner
which makes it one of the west's finest corporate citizens.
I am informed that I am not the only member of Congress who
will be contacting you on this matter. Please know that I am
writing to you separately because I have such faith in John Adams
and Rerr Coal. Once you have reviewed the material accompanying
this letter, I believe you will agree with me that resolution of
the matter at your level would be the most effective and
equitable approach to take at this time.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Best personal regards,
Sincerely,
Alan R. Simpson
UniL-ed States Senator
ARS/wws
Enclosure
