• E X H I B I T "I"
UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE
•
Page-3
SOILS INFORMATION
1).~ CA - Casca,jo Soils and Gravelly Land
In general, these soils are gravelly, excessively premeable, and because
of steep slopes, surface runoff is rapid. In a typical profile the surface
layer, about six inches thick, is gravelly loam. In the upper part it is
light brownish gray and has a loose consistence when dry. The next layer,
about 15 inches thick, is very pale-brown cobbly, very gravelly loam. It
ie rich in lime and has a thick lime coating on the bottom surface of
pebbles and cobbles. IInderlying the above horizon is stratified sand and
gravel. E`rom about 36 to ~5 inches is brownish-yellow silty clay that is
very strongly calcareous and contains many lime concretions. In places,
these soils are underlain by pale-yellow soft shale at varying depths.
• A complete and detailed description of these soils is found in the Soil
Survey of Otero County Colorado which is a part of this report.
2).` HsB - Harvey Stoneham Loams
The Harvey soil in this soil complex has the profile similar to that
described as typical for the series. The Stoneham soil has the profile
described as typical for the Stoneham series. Detailed descriptions of
these two soil series are found on page 12 in the Soil Survey o£ Otero
County Colorado which is a part of this report.
In general these soils consist of moderately deep to deep, well drained,
nearly level to gently sloping, medium textured soils of the uplands.
Permiability is medium to moderately slow, and water-holding capacity
is moderate to high. The intake rate is medium to moderately slow.
• o
