r + • •
' + '.
Date: Tuesday, December 10, 1996
Time: ca. 7:30 am
RE: Call from BMG employee to Charlie Jaquez
On Tuesday morning, December 10, 1996 on or about 7:30 am, I ,Charlie
Jaquez, received a phone call at my home in San Pablo, Colorado. The cull was from
a Battle Mountain Gold employee regarding cyanide leaks at the San Luis Project site.
The conversation was short and was ,roughly, as follows:
cj: Hello
emp: Is this Charlie Jaquez?
cj: Yes.
emp: "I'm a Battle Mountain Gold employee" [and I want to let you know that some
tanks are leaking cyanide. They are tanks 5 and 7].
cj: OK. You're saying that some tanks are leaking cyanide at BM
emp: "The tanks that are leaking are tanks 5 and 7. They have holes on a bottom.
They have been leaking for about two years."
cj: OK I understand. Anything else?
emp: They don't seem to want to do anything about it. They want to keep it quiet.
can't talk very much.
cj: Alright. I'll see what we can do about it. Thank you.
The caller was intent on letting me know the tank numbers. That those tanks
leaking were tanks #5 and #7. The voice was that of a male. I did not recognize the
voice and I especially concentrated on getting the information that he was~trying to
convey. He did not seem to want to be on the phone for very long. The c nversation
was quick and to the point. The phone call lasted about a minute or less.
:.~.~
~;
