June 24,2003 -29- 003-2203.7
• observed to be rough or inadequate, as discussed in Section 2.6. Golder and Poly-Flex approved the
final surface of the SLF prior to geomembrane deployment.
4.2.6.2 Moisture-Density Test Results
Golder performed a total of 83 in-place moisture-density tests of SLF. Golder compared results of the
field moisture content and density tests to the Proctor dry density and optimum moisture content
values of material with similar gradation and plasticity chazacteristics. Proctor dry density and
optimum moisture content values for samples with greater than ten percent plus three-quarter-inch
material were corrected according to ASTM D4718 to facilitate direct comparison to nuclear density
values. The moisture-density testing frequency of approximately one test per 369 cubic yards
exceeded the minimum specified testing frequency of one test per 500 cubic yards. Nuclear density
tests performed for the PSSA SLF are summarized in Table 15. A total of 24 out of the 83 nuclear
density tests initially failed to meet specifications. These areas were reworked, re-compacted, and
retested to meet specifications. The number of retests was not used to determine the testing
frequency. Holes made in the SLF during testing were filled by tamping fine SLF material into the
. holes.
4.2.6.3 Depth Verification
Ames drilled a total of 54 holes in the compacted SLF to verify that the minimum 12-inch compacted
depth had been achieved. Golder monitored the SLF depth verification tests and documented results.
Depth verification holes were filled with bentonite chips and water. All of the holes drilled into the
SLF had compacted depths greater than 12 inches. The testing frequency of 2.2 holes per acre
exceeded the minimum specified testing frequency of two measurements per acre. The Soil Liner
depth verification results are presented in Table 17.
4.2.7 Beddine Fill
Field testing included monitoring of placement, compactive effort, and preparation of BF for
geomembrane deployment. Depth was verified by QC survey, as shown in Record Drawing No. 5.
No nuclear moisture-density tests were performed on the BF finished grade.
r 1
L_J
c~oo~zzoa~oooo~e~ic.nrssaoem~oo~zzoa.oeoo.ona~xepa« Golder Associates
