Phase IVb Weekly Summary No. 14 Page 2 003-3203
}
Ames continued placement of Structural Fill (SF) in the Phase IVb azea, placing SF on the Substation
Hill south and west slopes. Ames also continued slope recontouring and re-compaction on Substation
Hill and Raven Hill.
Ames completed drilling ofperforation holes into the 26-inch High Volume Solution Collection System
(HVSCS) piping. Ames welded the 14-inch HDPE piping for the Low Volume Solution Collection
(LVSCS) riser piping.
Ames continued Drain Cover Fill (DCF) removal neaz the Phase III !Phase IVb PSSA tie-in in
preparation for east end berm and Phase IVb construction.
Ames excavated and constructed approximately 500 feet of Primary Underdrain on the west slope of
Substation Hill in the Phase IVb area.
Ames placed Low Volume Solution Collection Fill (LVSCF) onto the previously repaired, tested, and
documented azeas of panels L-354, L-355, and L X51, where dozer damage occurred in January 2003.
Poly-Flex continued deployment of 100-mil smooth (upper) LLDPE geomembrane in the Phase IVb
PSSA. Poly-Flex deployed 100-mil smooth LLDPE geomembrane over an azea of approximately
241,224 square feet in the Phase IVb PSSA during this reporting period. Geomembrane panels U-20
through U-114 were deployed, seamed, and pressure tested by Poly-Flex. Destmctive fusion seam
samples DFu-07 through DFu-35, were marked and removed. Destructive fusion seam peel and shear
tests of samples DFu-O1 through DFu-16 were performed. One destructive sample (DFu-09) failed
strength tests, and additional destructive tests were conducted to delineate the affected area. Caps were
extrusion welded over the failed seam length, vacuum tested and documented.
Phase IVc
Ames resumed limited cut to fill activities within the northern limits of the Phase IVc area. Ames
hauled oversize material from the Phase fVc area to an uncontrolled fill site.
Ames constructed a geogrid and Select Structural Fill (SSF) cap over working UG-278. Ames placed
two layers of geogrid in accordance with the drawings and specifications. Approximately 4,502 square
feet of geogrid was placed over the working.
Field Monitorine and Testing Activities
Golder observed construction activities associated with Phase IV earthworks. All construction
materials and soil materials placed were verified as suitable, and construction methods were in
accordance with project specifications. Removal of oversized and deleterious material from all fill
areas was observed. Golder observed Structural Fill (SF) placement in Phase >V for materials, lift
thickness, moisture content, and compactive effort.
Golder observed placement of SLF in Phase IVb for subgrade preparation, thickness, compaction,
moisture content, and earthworks materials used.
Phase IV614 Apr20-Ap11k 200i.doc Golder Associates Inc.
