The original permitted size of the tailings impoundment dam had the dimensions 400
feet by 260 feet at its longest and widest points. As actually constructed, the initial tailings
impoundment storage area occupies a rectangular shaped area that has the dimensions 275 feet
by 100 feet at its longest and widest points. This size was determined after surveying the
outline of the tailings impoundment dam in the field, and deciding to take advantage of the
natural topography and ground conditions to build a smaller but deeper tailings retention
structure. By reducing the initial length of the tailings impoundment dam, the entire site is
also well screened from public view from County Road No. 52 by the existing growth of
mature pine and aspen trees. This resulted in a reduction of the size of the land surface
disturbed by the construction of the tailings pond by 0.46 acres. This undisturbed land surface
area allows for the inclusion of the area disturbed by the installation of two water pumping
stations at 0.013 and 0.014 acres and the pre-existing road which separates the mill building
from the tailings pond and contains 0.069 acres of land. It includes enough land surface to
add all of the areas that will be disturbed outside of the main permit boundary and the area
where water and mill tailings will be conveyed between the Gold Hill Mill and the tailings
pond. As soon as the pumping station at Left Hand reek and_the Times mine water well have
been installed, the actual area of surface land disturbed will be measured and reported to the
Mined Land Reclamation Division staff. These water pumping locations will be plotted and
submitted on a revised Millsite and Tailings Pond Reclamation Plan Map.
Very wly yours,
`nc~~ ~.. ~~.
Mark A.
