This
tunnel will be 425 feet long and will join in with an existing tunnel This proposal would result in the removal of
most trees within the three acre project site. This site will be reclaimed after mining is completed.
District Wildlife Manager Claire Solohub toured this site in September of 2004. The dominant tree species are
ponderosa pine, Engelmarut spruce, blue spruce, and fir. There are no wetlands or riparian areas in the proposed
project area.
The Division of Wildlife recommends that excavation and tree removal be avoided between the months of April
and August to minimize disruption to ground and tree nesting birds. We also recommend sealing mine shafts when
not immediately in use to prevent wildlife such as deer from falling in.
If you have further questions, please contact Claire Solohub at (303) 828-2591.
Sincerely,
f~
Scott Hoover,
Northeast Regional Manager
Colorado Division of Wildlife
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Russell rte, Exeafive Dnedor
WI WL1FE COMMISSION, Philip James, Cha'c • Jeffrey Crawford, Vio2Chair • Brad Ptrelps, Seorr9ary
Members, Bernard Blade • Tom Burke • Ride Enstrom • Claire O'Neal • Robert Shoemaker • Ken Tortes
Ex Ofido Mernbers, Russell George and Don Ament
