The Mount Royale portal areas were also the site(s) of earlier mining
operations (circa 1880's), and several resultant waste rock dumps are
present. L'itde to no vegetation exists on the waste rods dump surfaces,
with most areas of vegetative encroachment typically being assodated
with the thin soil bases that have established around the edges or toes of
the waste rods dumps.
(b) Man-Made Structures Near Permit Area
The Cash and Who Do Mine Project area has been the site of mining
activity dating from the 1870s, as well as recent mining activity. Most of
the recent (drea 1950 to present) activity has been centered on the Cash
Mine, Who Do Mine, and the upslope Gold Hill Mill (roughly 800 feet
northwest of the Cash Mine). While there are remnant mine-related
structures present in and about the pernit area, there are no known (non-
mine related) structures present within a 200-foot radius from either the
current or proposed (amended) permit areas.
(c) Description of Water Resources of Area
Surface Water Resources
The surface water drainage on the affected lands is generally ephemeral,
consisting almost entirely of runoff originating as rainfall and/or snowmelt.
Flows produced by these features drain to either Cash Gulch (central and
western portions of the general area) or Black Cloud Gulch on the eastern
portion. [Note: "Black Cloud Gulch° is ident~ed as "Black Hawk Gulch°
on U.S.G.S. topographic mapping; however it has been more frequently
referenced in other documentation as either Black Cloud Gulch or
McKnight Gulch. Mount Royale Ventures LLC prefers to utilize the name
"Black Cloud Gulch°)
Both Cash Gulch and Black Cloud Gulch are tributary to Gold Run Creek.
Cash Gulch enters Gold Run Creek at a location just downstream of
Summerville, whereas Black Cloud Gulch enters Gold Run Creek about
600 feet further downstream. Gold Run Creek is tributary to Fourmile
Creek at a point approximately 1 mile downstream of Black Cloud Gulch
(in the vicinity of Salina). Fournile Creek is in turn tributary to Boulder
Creek approximately 5 miles further downstream (in the vicinity of
Orodell).
During most of the year surficial flow is intermittent, and flow events
observed in Cash Gulch seldom result in sustained or measurable flows
at the Boulder County Road 89 drainage culvert location (approximately
2,100 feet downgradrent of the Permit Area). The vertical elevation
differential between the Mount Royale No. 1 Adit and the culvert location
is on the order of 400 feet. Flow events, 'rf/when sustained as surficial
flow downgradient of the culvert location, would follow a course defined
by Cash Gulch over an approximate distance of 2,400 feet in a
southeasterly direction to its confluence with Gold Run Creek.
