MEMO to Mike Long
August 24, 1995 - BMRI
Page 2
a) Samples will be analyzed for the parameters shown
in the attached Table 3.
4) Pursuant to TR-010, the tailings pond and collection pond
feeder ditch will be sampled daily.
a) Samples will be analyzed onsite for WAD 'and Total
cyanide.
5) Pursuant to TR-010 and TR-023, samples will be taken five
to nine days apart from the tailings exiting the INCO
reactor.
a) Samples will be analyzed onsite for WAD sand total
cyanide.
Lab reports for the bi-weekly, quarterly and semi-annual samples
are sent to the Division when they become available. If any of the
monitoring stations are dry, sampling is not required.
weekly and monthly reports are required for the dai y onsite
analyses of the tailings pond and the collection pond fe der ditch
(paragraph 4 above).
Monthly reports are required for the INCO tailing samples
(paragraph 5 above). A 30-day rolling average shall be etermined
weekly for all the analyses performed during the precedin 30 days.
In the event that any weekly 30-day rolling average det rmination
is found to exceed 3.8 mg/1 WAD cyanide and/or 4.4 m /1 total
cyanide, then certain intermediate response actions are r quired by
BMRI.
Pursuant to TR-016 and TR-023, ten embankment piezomete s will be
monitored monthly. In addition, the flow rate from th tailings
impoundment to the collection pond will be monitored mont ly. BMRI
will submit a report to the Division in their annual r port. If
water is detected in any of the piezometers, BMRI must r port this
information to the Division within 5 days.
JD/gaw
cc: Bruce Humphries
James Stevens
AL \oss\BMRL~~
