disturbing the existing line. <br />The first hydrostatic test phase I) was performed on the first section of <br />HDPE pipeline installed, from the first cleanout tee to the new discharge vault. This <br />length of pipe was about 2,550 feet, or approximately 75% of the total length to be <br />installed. The test performed was per the PPI handbook procedure, using no <br />' makeup water during the final portion of the test. <br />' A 24-inch blind flange was installed at the first cleanout tee. The 24-inch <br />HDPE pipeline was filled with clean water from a fire hydrant, and all air was bled <br />' off from the cleanout tees. The 24-inch valve in the discharge vault was closed and <br />the pipeline pressurized using a small positive displacement pump. The pipeline was <br />pressurized to 150 psi for a total of four hours. During this period,~a small amount <br />of water was added to maintain the pressure a;.150 psi. This is acceptable, per the. <br />' PPI handbook. After the four-hour period, the pressure was reduced to 140 psi and <br />the pressure monitored for an additional one-hour period. The pipeline was not <br />disturbed in any way during this period. After one hour, the pressure was read <br />' again. The pressure was still found to be at 140 psi, indicating no change or loss of <br />pressure. A pressure drop of up to 7 psi would have been acceptable per the PPI <br />' manual. After the completion of the hydrostatic test, the pipeline was drained of all <br />water. This section of pipeline was therefore recommended for use, and installation <br />proceeded on the remaining section of HDPE pipe. <br />' The second hydrostatic test (phase II) was performed after the 24-inch HDPE <br />pipeline was completely installed. The new 24-inch HDPE pipe was connected to <br />' the existing 16-inch HDPE pipe in the #5 shaft Personnel Tunnel (PT) and the first <br />cleanout tee, where the first pressure test was conducted. The second hydrostatic <br />' test verified the final section of Storke pipeline installed was pressure tight, and re- <br />tested the portion of the pipe tested previously in phase I. The entire new Storke <br />' 24-inch HDPE pipe assembly was therefore tested as a whole. The testing <br />procedure was a repeat of that described above, except in this case, the pump was <br />9 <br />
