as any scratches or gouges are less than 10% of the wall thickness. All of the <br />scratches inspected on this pipeline were found to be much less than 10% of the <br />' wall thickness and distributed randomly along and around the pipe surface. The <br />scratches are therefore acceptable, and will not affect the pipeline strength. <br />The testing by RTD included some 22 joints on the new HDPE pipe, out of a <br />total of 129, or about 17% of the total. Since no defects were found (and no <br />problems were expectedl, and the same procedures were used to make all of the <br />' pipe joints, it is reasonable to expect that the rest of the new HDPE pipeline is also <br />defect free. Without excavating the newly buried pipe, it is not possible to <br />' ultrasonically test any more of the pipe. <br />7 <br />
