used to make the joints, verification of fusion process by testing sample joints, data
logging all joints made, and hydrostatically testing the completed pipeline to verify
its integrity. This updated report includes the results of hydrostatic testing that was
performed both on a portion of the pipeline, and the completed pipeline. In both
cases, the pipeline passed the hydrostatic testing and has been approved for use.
During construction of the project, the owner requested that ultrasonic
evaluation of the pipe joints be performed in addition to the quality control measures
described above. Ultrasonic testing of large diameter HDPE pipe joints is a very new
technology and was not included in the project specifications. Ultrasonic testing
was performed on approximately 17% of the joints made on the Storke Pipeline.
The 17°~ of the joints tested included the.more critical, high-pressure end of the
pipeline. This testing indicated that all of'tlie, joints checked were free of defects,
and acceptable.
2
