The ample matrix has pmven to he quite a challenge in dtxermining what
level otseuleahie solid material ut rtgwrt.
ACZ performs this test by Standard Medtods 2540 F. This tea3tnique uses an Imhotfi cone m quantitate
settirable solids over a spexificd amoum of time (1 hour). These samples- specifically Ne tiulch A site
(lab number L8769-02) appear m have a colloidal suspnacion that, neither settles out physically on the
fwtrom of the cone or floats nn rop of the water layer. The method indicates m not includo floating
matnrla[, but dues not address this type of situation. After the specified hour them does appear m be a
slight separation between a watu layer and the atlloidal layer, in the top few Inches of the water
column. The colloidal layer rrachm ail the way at the Mntom of the woe. The tblluidal layer data
not appear to he tnatrrial that looks like typit~l senlcahle solids. in fuY, the material appears m have a
gelatinntu rotate
Evidently, the measurement prortse u to whether this material is at:Nally settlt~ble is highly
subJe~xivn in ttaturti. DlKercnt analysts and supervisory personnel have debated on what m rtport.
This type of matrix or situation is ntu addressed In the method.
(f you have any questions or Curtner dirtxtians un yaur analysis pmgram please give me a call at
(800)3345493.
Sincerely,
Q,~i[.l ...c.j~
Scott Habtxmehl
Project Manager
ATTACHMENT 1
30400 Oownhlu Or/ve PhonB (800) 334.5493
set un iolM A70.99 /R
