lone per minute, or 43,200 gallons per day, the detention time in
the ponds should be adequate.
The seepage control and treatment system described above could be
considered a long term plan although it may be difficult to
operate the system effectively during the winter. Because of
potential problems with the system during the winter months Snow-
masa is planning to attempt to draw the water in the mine down
below the portal elevation by pumping it from the mine through an
existing bore hole. If the water can be drawn down during the
summer months and allowed to fill again each winter then the
problem with treating the water during the winter will be solved.
Another less attractive plan would be to grout the portal area in
hopes of cutting the water off permanently however this option
hae not been Pully explored.
If the effort to draw the water in the mine down is unsuccessful,
then the water treatment and control system will be revised so it
will function properly during the winter months. This will in-
volve at a minimum, burping pipes and changing the pond overflow
piping systems. The drip feed system will also either be moved
into the east portal or covered and heated.
RBCLAMATION
Reclamation of the disturbed areas will occur after Snowmasa is
relieved of its responsibility to treat the mine seepage water.
The following table lists acreages which were disturbed in order
to control and treat the mine seepage:
AREA
No. 1 Mine Portal Area
Road Across Site
Treatment Pond Area
Material Stockpile Area
Pipe Corridor (future)
ACEES DISTURBHI
e.2
0.7
1.0
0.2
0.2
TOTAL
2.3
Reclamation of these areas will be accomplished by doing minor
grading work, covering the areas with topsoil obtained from the
stockpiles along the haul road to the old truck dump area and
seeding and mulching the areas in accordance with our mining per-
mit.
