Descripr.ion
53 KIM LOA?1, 1 TO 3 PERCENT SLOPES This nearly level soil
is on uplands and fans. In r_luded with this soil in
mapping are a few small areas of soils that are mot? or
less sloping, a few small areas of soils that hate a
surface layer of clay loam, and a few small areas of
soils that have gravel on the surface. Also included
are a small areas of Fort Collins and Ston?ham sails.
A water table is within the root Zone for parr. of the
growing season in a few areas. The Rim series consists
of deep, well drained soils that formed in mixed
alluvium. Typicallc, the surface layer is a loam about
12 inches thick. The underlying material is loam about
48 inches thick. Permeability is moderat?, and the
available water holding capacity is high. Reaction is
mildly alkaline above a depth of 12 inches and
moderately alkaline below r.hat depth. Runoff is slow.
The hazard of wirer erosion is slight, and the hazard
of wind erosion is moderate. This unit is a Loamy
Plains rang? site, Capability unit is IIe-1 Irrigated,
IVe-3 Drvland
56 KIM-THEDALUND LOAMS, 3 TO 15 PERCEPT SLOPES This
complex consists of gently sloping to moderately steep
soils on uplands, fans, and vallepsides. Zt is about.
45 percent Rim loam and about 35 percent Thedalund
loam. The Ki.m loam is less sloping and th=_ Th=.da h.md
loam is steeper. Included with these soils in mapping
are small areas of Renohill and Midway soils, small
rock outcrops and gravel knobs, and some small wet seep
spots. The Kim series consists of deep, well drained
soils that formed in mixed alluvium. In a typical soil
profile the surface layer is a loam about 5 inches
thick. The underlying material is a loam about 55
inches thick. The Thedalund series consists of
moderately deep, well drained soils that formed in
material weathered from sandstn~re and shale. In a
typical soil. profile the surface layer i.s a loam about
4 inches thick. The subsurface layer is a loam about 4
inches thick. The underlying material is loam about
23 inches thick over sof r, shale and sandstone.
Permeability is moderate, and the available water
rapa r.ity is med iron to high. Reaction is neutral to
mildly alkaline above a depth of abmrt 4 inches and
moderately alkaline h?low that dep t!~. Runoff is rapid,
and the hazard of water erosion is severe.
