adequate moisture retention, sagebmsh occurs. Slopes in this unit generally range from 0 to 5 percent <br />• (ilFA phrase) ,though in some azeas the slope may range from 5-15% (UFB phrase). Soils withing <br />this mapping unit azea aze well drained with moderate permeabilities. Erosion hazazd due to wind <br />and water is moderate. <br />Map Unit FA <br />Soils of this unit occur under the forest canopy. The dominant tree species is lodgepole pine with <br />aspen and very small amounts of spruce interspersed. Dominant understory vegetation is <br />kinnikinnick; this combination of overstory and understory is the habitat type Pinus contorts/ <br />Arctostaphylos uva-ursi. <br />Two phases of the FA map unit occur within the are: the FAA, on slopes of 0 to 5 percent, and the <br />FAB, on the 5 to 15 percent slopes. <br />~? Soils within this map unit aze well drained with moderate to rapid permeabilities and may or may not <br />have gravelly or cobbly profiles above the C horizon. Soils within this map unit have moderate <br />erosion hazards. <br />Mag Unit GO <br />Soils of this unit appeaz to occur on north/south trending lateral moraines of past glaciation. They aze <br />generally very gravelly with cobbles occurring below 12 inches. The textures below 24 inches are <br />usually wbbly loam or cobbly sandy loams. These textures generally prevail to bedrock. Soils of <br />this map unit aze well drained and have moderately rapid pemreabilities.
