The two July photos better show the full sunlit face of the Muffler
Rock landslide, but the shading in the November photo lends a good perspective of the rugged
steepness of this feature. Comparison of earlier (] 980's) aerial photos to the enclosed 1996 photo
shows that sliding over the years has been gradually changing the character of the landslide face.
Many barren slide paths have developed. In the past year (per the July 1996 and July 1997
photos), sliding further opened an area down the center of this steep landslide face, encompassing
approximately 8.25 acres. (Note that the longwall mined beneath the Muffler Rock azea in April
1997.)
Please return these three photos to me after you're through with your review. !f you would like
to obtain copies, you may contact lntrasearch, Inc., 5351 South Roslyn Street, Suite 100,
Englewood, CO 801 ] 1.
Sincerely,
~~~- -~~
Kathleen G.
