i,
4.6.6.5 WATER SAMPLING TECHNIQUES
Preservation Methods - All laboratory water samples are taken in bottles
provided by the licensed local laboratory. Preservative solutions are added
to those sample bottles, which require a preservative, by the lab. Dissolved
parameter samples will be filtered prior to adding preservatives. The lab
samples are to be transported to the lab on the same day the sample is taken.
If the samples cannot be transported to the lab on the sampling day, they are
refrigerated until they can be delivered to the lab. Field parameters are
sampled at the site with a Horiba water quality meter.
Ground Water Sampling - The water level depths are measured by using a
tape measure or an electronic water level indicator, depending on water depth.
water levels are measured from the top of the well casing or top of the
housing depending on the water station. The well is then evacuated by using a
6 foot long, 2,5 inch diameter PVC evacuator tube. After the well refills,
the evacuator tube is lowered into the well to retrieve a sample. The sample
is discharged into a plastic bucket from which the sample bottles are filled.
A Horiba water quality meter is then immersed into the bucket to measure the
field parameters.
Surface Water Sampling - Sample bottles are filled directly from the
stream when possible, otherwise they are filled from a sample bucket, before
measuring field parameters. When necessary, a plastic bucket is submerged
into the stream and filled. The Horiba water quality meter is then immersed
into the bucket to measure field parameters.
NPDES Sampling - At these points, water depths are measured with a tape
measure or a staff gauge, depth is then converted to flow. Sample bottles are
filled directly from the discharge when possible; otherwise, they are filled
from the sample bucket as previously described. Field parameters are measured
with the Horiba water quality meter.
4.6.8.6 MONITORING FOR BACKFILL AQUIFERS
The backfill spoils in the west Ridge Area will be monitored for the
continued development of a spoils aquifer. A spring and seep survey will be
performed annually in May (or as soon as practical after snowmelt) covering
the base of reclaimed areas along Trout Creek. NPDES Point 003 will serve as
9.6-144
November 1, 1989
