\~
~ `~'~
Bruce Humphries
July 22, 1991
Page 2
t
• ~'
My father has personally observed Mr. Watson dig out approximately
400-500 feet of the Uncompahgre River Bank. Mr. Watson has also
dug a gravel pit in the flood plane approximately 100 feet from the
center of the Uncompahgre River. He has crossed the river many
times in order to extract rock and soil from the far bank and sand
bars. Photographs are enclosed for your review.
At this point we are in question of the propriety and legality of
Mr. Watson's actions. On at least two occasions, my father has
attempted to discuss this situation with Mr. Watson. However, he
refuses to discuss the same.
We request your assistance in this matter. My father would like
to meet with you or one of your associates at his property so you
may inspect the same. Should it be deemed Mr. Watson's actions
are in compliance with Federal and Colorado law, this matter will
be dropped. However, his current activities whether legal or not
are potentially endangering my father's river-bottom land. If
there are other governmental agencies or departments which should
be notified of this situation, please inform me and/or my father.
Edward J. Babbitt, Sr. may be reached by telephone at (303) 240-
7990. You are authorized to contact him directly in order to
discuss this situation and arrange for inspection.
Should you wish to contact the undersigned, please feel free to do
so at the number listed on my letterhead. We appreciate and look
forward to your assistance.
Very truly yours,
SHIFFLET, WALTERS, KANE & KONOSKE
EDWARD J BBITT, J .
EJB:sc
cc: Edward J. Babbitt, Sr.
