Thompson
hydrologist
Re: Coal Ridge No. 1, File No. 6-84-OGS
~~~~~~~~
MIND LAND
I~ECLAMA?'ION DIVISION
Dear Pls. Thompson:
Reference is made to our discussion on Friday, t•Iay 6, 1988,
regarding missing water samples on Data Point CR.2 (Colorado
River).
Searching our records and discussing this with P1r. Timothy
O'Connor, it appears that we indeed failed to obtain samples
during the second and fourth quarter of 1987. Samples were taken
on January 13 and July 27, 1987.
I cannot offer an explanation for this failure of taking samples
as required, as our field books clearing indicate that samples
should be taken in April and October. Our personnel were in the
field to take samples from other points in January, February,
Piarch, April, Play, July and September of the year. I can only
surmise that the field parameters for the Colorado River not
taken on the required dates, were due to an oversight on our
part.
This confusion may have been caused from the several revisions in
progress to our operational monitoring program, or by a misun-
derstanding of the requirements due to the cessation of our
operations. As you know, and as is apparent from our field
records, other points were sampled and analyzed more often than
what was required. i•ihy we failed on the Colorado River to follow
a similar policy, I cannot explain, nor can [•ir. O'Connor, with
tohom I discussed this problem this morning by telephone.
New Castle Energy Corporation • 9137 East Mineral Circle • Englewood, CO 80112 • (303) 792-2625
