Box 1354
Palisade, CO 81526
(303)+464-7951
In a letter dated May 9, 1988, the penmittee requested that discharge point
001 be reactivated. In the previous amendment (Amendment No. 1), this
discharge had been deleted as requested, since the design of watertight seals
for "Sine No. 1 was approved by MLRD on May 28, 1987 and installation of the
seals was completed in July 1987. During a site inspection on April 28, 1988,
seeps were noted in the vicinity of the !Mine No. 1 portals. Presently, this
seepage has been contained and is being piped to a sediment pond. Treatment
ponds are currently being constructed on site; treatment x-ill involve the
addition of a chemical to increase the pH of the water and a chemical for
coagulation and settling of solids.
The maximum estimated flow zate for 001 is 100 gpm (or 0.144 MGD1; present
flows are approximately 35 gpm. The limits and monitoring for 001 are
generally comparable to the previous requirements for this discharge; however,
limits for tot. rec. cadmium have been included for 001, since this pa-ameter
was detected in the seep water (see Appendit A for seep water quality). kith
the discharge from 001, the limitations for 007 are also slightl3' changed (for
tot. rec. iron and tot. rec. cadmium), and are comparable to the previous
limits for 007 which were in effect through December 31, 1967. Limits for
both metals at 001 and 007 are based upon the combined flow from both
discharges, which is 0.259 MGD or 0.40 cfs. The amended limits and monitoring
for 001 and 007 are s~+++*+~p~ized on the next page, and the calculations for the
two metals are shown in Appendix A.
