the pit location. However, the habitat both on the site, and in the immediate azea, is not considered
suitable for this species.
5. Fish Resources
None
6. General Effects of the Operation on the Existing Wildlife of the Area
Gravel extraction and crushing activities will no doubt create some disturbance to animals near the
site. However, resident wildlife will generally become habituated to these activities. Migrating
animals will probably avoid the site, but the proposed pit does not block any known migratory
routes, and wildlife should be able to move through the area unimpeded. Due to the possibility for
animal/vehicle collisions, hauling activities will probably pose the biggest threat to wildlife. Haul
trucks should keep to posted speeds and drivers need to remain aware of the potential for collisions.
The amended operation for 2006 will include mine pit pumping which will dischazge to the River.
This is regulated carefully by the NPDES permit process and the water that will be dischazged will
be clean. Wetlands will be created along the fringe of the reclaimed lake which will be a benefit to
waterfowl, amphibians and fish in the lake. The lake is not in any threat of being captured by a
flood in the River which could then introduce undesirable fish species in the River. The elevations
of the land between the River and the mined out lake do not allow this since the 100 yeaz floodplain
does not reach the lake.
The CDOW letter for the original permit is included on the following page. Due to the fact that no
new disturbed area will take place for the 2006 Amendment, and no known sightings of sensitive
wildlife azound the permit azea, no additional investigation of wildlife has been done. The
reclamation of the site is basically no different from the original permit, the only thing that is
changing is the mining method to achieve it.
North R-34 Pit 1/07
22
