the irrigation system is off, an augmentation pond is included in the design which will be filled with
water during irrigation season from the existing rights from the ditch on the property. After
irrigation season, water will be released from the pond into the River. See Map C-2. The Decree
from the Water Court is included in Appendix B, which includes the detailed information on the
consumptive uses and the operation of the augmentation pond. The landowner applied for and
obtained this decree.
Consumptive Uses During Mining
The wet nature of the gravel will eliminate the need for water use for dust suppression in the pit but
some water may be needed for occasional road watering. During times when the road is being used
heavily and the surface is very dry, the road will either be treated with an application of magnesium
chloride or a water truck will be used to keep dust down. Potable water will also be brought in for
drinking on site.
Water will also be needed to offset the loss in the gravel material (4% by weight). This is discussed
in more detail in the water decree issued in 1999 for the augmentation plan.
Consumptive Uses after Mining
The consumptive uses after mining consist of evaporation from the lake and from the augmentation
pond itself. See the Decree for the details of the calculations.
Portable sanitation facilities will be provided to all workers at the mine site. The waste will be taken
off site for treatment in an approved facility. There will be no leach fields or other means of sewage
disposal.
NoKh R-34 Pit 1/07
20
