MINING PLAN
1. Location and Settine
EXHIBIT D
This is an application for a Regulaz 112 permit to mine gravel at a site location in Montrose
county approximately 2.5 miles northwest of Montrose. The site is on a low terrace formed by the
historic location of the Uncompahgre River. However, the azea to be mined lies several hundred
west of the modem location of the river at its closest approach. The upper surface of the area to be
mined has minimal relief, ranging from neazly level to about one percent. The surrounding land
uses to the north, west and south aze primarily agricultural. River bottom land lies to the east.
2. Access
An existing access is located directly off LaSalle Road (a county road), along the south side
of the affected azea. A river crossing by bridge is located on the northeast side of the site, which
allows access to Westem Gravel's processing facilities. This bridge is a single lane reinforced
flatcar bridge that has been approved by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The bridge has been
installed and is operational with no problems. All materials extracted from the pit for sale will be
taken across the bridge to Western Gravel's processing plants in that azea. These plants aze not part
of this permit.
3. Natural of the Deposit
The material to be mined consists of unconsolidated sand, gravel, and stones up to about 60
feet in thickness. The aggregate is dominantly siliceous and no visible evidence is present on site to
suggest that any refuse or acid or toxic-forming materials will be exposed by the mining operation.
According to the Geologic Map of Colorado (reprinted 1975), the material to be mined is alluvium
(from work by W.W. Atwood and K.F. Mather, U.S.G.S. Prof. Paper 166). The material lies
North R-34 Pit 1/07
