Ted Keller
9950 Soap Weed Rd
Calhan, CO 80808
August 7, 2005
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street
Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
To Whom It May Concern:
In addition to the letter dated August 1, 2005, there aze several more concerns that need
to be pointed out regarding the expansion of the Sokol Gravel Pit application (Pit #M-
1980-193).
I move to my property in December of 2003, at that time the gravel pit was not in
operation. It has since been reopened and resumed operation. The truck traffic on some
days is very heavy and creates a lot of dust and noise pollution.
Now I find that there is an application for expansion of the site, not only for gravel
operations but for other operations too (asphalt and/or concrete plant). My concern is the
sign posted at the property is misleading. It specifically states that a "reclamation
permit" (see attached photo of sign) has been applied for, not a nearly 10 fold increase in
size and additional operations permit has been applied for. I find it hazd to trust the
under:y ing motive of a company that can not be honest in its intentions.
This company has applied for an "open-ended" permit for operations it doesn't know the
scope of (gravel operations) and for operations it can not project (asphalt or concrete,
maybe both).
As a neighbor of the proposed operation that will have to deal with the long-term
problems created by this operation, I urge you to deny this permit.
Please inform me of your intentions regazding this permit.
Thank you,
Ted Keller
