Ms. Kim Harvill
CITIZENS' INDUSTRY ADVISORY PANEL
P.O. BOX 495
SAN LUIS, COLORADO 8l 152
MAY 26, 1995
Div. of Minerals/Geology
13 13 Sherman St., Rm 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Kim,
RF~EI\/ED
JUN 01 1995
prvision o~ ~Wneiais ~ neology
This letter is one of appreciation to the Mined Land Reclamation Board concetnin~ the hearings
that took place on May 25th, 1995.
I am an employee of Battle Mountain Resources, Inc and also the secretary/treasurer of the
Citizens' Industry Advisory Panel, a panel established in the Spring of 1993 with a~dual pur-
pose . One, to set up a communication channel with the residents of Costilla County to
ruthful deal with all apprehensions, and concerns that the community might have
regarding Battle Mountain's presence in San Luis.
The second purpose for which the Citizens' Industry Advisory Panel was establish@d is
economic development. To take a portion of Battle Mountain property and it's in~ras[ructure,
free of charge, search for a company or governmental entity [o relocate to CostillalCounty and
replace as many jobs as possible, to avoid a severe economic downturn when the raining is done.
Costilla County had seldom enjoyed economic prosperity, until Battle Mountain cane into the
picture-and it could go back to the "bad old days" if we do not take advantage of what they
have offered to give us.
The panel consists of: 2 County Commissioners, the County Administrator, the Corpnty Sheriff,
Town Mayor of San Luis, 2 School Board members, 3 Farmers, a High School Tea~her, 1
Business person, 2 Mine employees , a good cross section of the entire community. This panel
has contacted the Colorado Department of Corrections and is actively pursuing a Cprrectional
Facility in the county, to be located at the Battle Mountain mine site.
I, as a resident, appreciate the Battle Mountain corporate attitude expressed by Mr. y'.ndre
Douchane, " We want to leave San Luis in better shape than what we found it !" AI$o, as an
employee and as a resident, I appreciate the Mined Land Reclamation Board and it'd staffs
attitudes, comments and decisions concerning Battle Mountain. Maxine's comment that
"Battle Mountain is a premiere company operating in our state", is and has been [h~ focal
point of this operation. Thanks to you as a regulatory agency that economic development
was not stifled due to objections by a handful who have been hammering away from the
beginning. Gracias !
CC
Alfravez, Secr ary/Treasurer t~1L ~ Q
Cmzens' Industry Advisory Panel
NumoP~~
~.s
