The initial tailings impoundment storage area occupies a rectan-
gular shaped area that has the dimensions of 275 feet by 100 feet at its
longest and widest points. The toe of the tailings dam extends for 330
feet along its outer face from the northeastern edge to the southwestern
edge of the structure. A revised Millsite and Tailings Pond Reclamation
Plan Map that reflects these changes will be submitted to the Mined
Land Reclamation Division.
Following the completion of the tailings dam construction earth
work, the following sequence of geomembrane liner installation was
followed:
1. All sharp rocks, large stones, roots, vegetation, and other
foreign material were removed from the interior of the tailings
impoundment area.
2. All of the remaining surface irregularities were smoothed
out and s layer of compacted decomposed granite was placed on
the bottom and sides of the tailings retention structure.
3. An anchor trench 24 inches wide by 36 inches deep was dug
with a backhoe around the inner perimeter of the tailings dam to
hold the edge of the geomembrane liner. This trench was dug a
minimum of at least 1 foot from the interior slope of the tailings
impounding area.
