surface to test, as it was nearly smooth. <br />Western Fuels can conclude from this data that measuring the <br />compaction of the refuse pits by excavating test pits can best be <br />accomplished by using dozer excavated pits. It appears that the <br />dozer blade can cut the refuse cleanly with minimal disturbance. <br />The pressure of the grouser pads in the dozer track appears to <br />cause some minimal additional compaction while the backhoe may also <br />cause some additional compaction caused by the digging action of <br />the bucket. <br />It can therefore be concluded that a multi-level compaction test <br />can be successfully run using sloped, bulldozer excavated pits with <br />minimal or no bias being introduced. <br />7. <br />
