Box 88
Galp, Colorado 81828
303-824.8248
Be:_Bac Around end Linderste_nding of S mn ins Req~jrrments of the A Through D~noil Sam
Series for the Fskme_n Park Permit C-81-071
This letter is being provided to convey some of the history and background associated with the
sampling of the A through D series spoil springs under the C-81-071 permit.
Tltis series of springs are immediately adjacent to one another and emanate along the toe of the
strip pit area immediately above Pond A (Site 39). These springs emanate along a stretch of the
toe approximately 70-80 yards in length as 1 recall, and have historically been treated as one major
spring, with individually sub-designated outflow points. Given the proximity of these points to
one another, the full-suite samples for this area have always been aflow-weisltted composite of
the A, B, C, and D spring designation points, with th; field parameters for each ofthese points
being collected as an individual reading. This is totally in keeping with the permit requirements
which require a full suite sample when floes ~ from adjacent springs exceeds 35 GPM.
Review of past Annual liydrologic Reports (AHRs) will show that this series of springs has
always been sampled in this manner, with individual field parameters and a single composited full-
suite analysis. Jn past reports, the results from the composite full-suite analysis were reported
under each of the individual spring designations, but this was highly redundant. The newer
reports only show the field parameters for the A through C aeries, and report the composite under
the D-comp point. Review of past AHRs by the Division had not indicated that the sampling
procedure being used was a problem, nog had there been any indication that this was a problem
during past discussions on sampling wh~la in the field, specifically with either Mr. Berry or Mr.
Waldron.
