Mr. Carl Mount.
IVovembec 2I, 2006.
P6ge 2 o,J 2
trigger points will now-lie based on the known elevafion of the perimeter drain at each
monitoring well in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the, perimeter drain.
The locafions of the three monitoring wells aze shown on the attached, drawings„ To
..
evaluate the effectiveness of the perimeter drain, and"to protect against adverse effects on
existing 'structures; the new trigger elevation for each monitoring well.will be' oRe foot
above the elevation of the top. of the drain at each well for three consecutive months.
Three 'consecutive months; is necessary to account for `seasonal fluctuations . in
gtoundwater flow in the azea, the relatively slow movement of groundwater to the
perimeter drain,. and to a11oW the perimeter. dtain sufficient time to effectively drain'the
groundwater:
Measwed groundwater elevations in excess of one foot above the perimeter drain for ..
ahree consecutive months will indicate that the perimeter drain is not functioning
properly,. or that groundwater mounding is in excessof the drain's capacity. Carma will
provide.the DMG with monthly monitoring well data bn a quarterly basis, except in the .
0vent that the monitoring wells ~hoW..three consecutive-months of exceedence of the one-
- "foot trigger in which case Carona will notify DMG witlvn 48 hows.. If the three-month;
`one-foot' trigger is reached, Garma will work. with DMG to evaluate the' cause of the
,excess mounding, and identify potential. solutions or additional mitigation measures at.
~ that time.. Carma will identify the additional mitigation measures or potential solutions
within 5 working days after notifying DMG of the exceedence. " .
Catma will comtni# to monitoring groundwater levels for a. period of.12 months, after Which
Canna will evaluate the need for additional monitoring. If offer 12 or more months of monitoring
Carina beliedes'tkere, is'sufficient data to demonstrate that the groundwater monitoring is no
longer needed at the site "Carina will submit a request to DMG to discontinue the groundwater
.monitoring.
If you have any questions.please do not hesitate to call me at (303) 452-6611.
Cordially,
Applegate Gtoup,J/nfc. ~
Donald E.:Frick; E.I. .
Water Resource Engineer
I
N:\05151 Carina\Water Rights\Gen\Ltr - CMount Technieal Revision 11.21.2006.doc
I
i ..
