Battle Mountain Gold
NOPV Abatement Requirements
page 2
include a schedule for implementation. Following approval of this
technical revision, BMG shall implement the treatment method in
accordance with the plan. Appropriate frequency and distribution of
monitoring of the tailings and plant circuit shall be proposed within the
application and subsequently conducted to verify the progress Hnd success
of the remedial treatment. Monitoring results, covered by an 9ppropriate
cover letter report shall be submitted to the Division weekly during the
detoxification program.
BMG will be permitted to operate the processing plant, including the
introduction of unprocessed ore, until the projected tailings quality has
been achieved. At that point in time BMG will cease operation of the
plant pending approval to recommence operation by the Division,
Monitoring of cyanide levels within the tailings slurry and lipuid shall
continue to verify the anticipated decay of cyanide levels following the
cessation of the detoxification program, until cessation is approved by
the Division.
The introduction of chemical compounds into the processing cir uit to
affect an immediate remedy of the tailings cyanide problem cou d
potentially create additional problems by amending the chemica
constituency of the tailings. The Division cautions BMG that it will be
held responsible for any unanticipated results of its remedial actions.
Status: Partially Satisfied
- BMG submitted T.R. Application on April 3 1992.
- Division approved the T.R. on April 7, 19y2 with
three stipulations.
(5) Leak Detection System Effluent Containment:
In the event that fluid is intercepted by the tailings fluid collection
pond liner leak detection system, BMG shall design and implement an
automated system to minimize the development of hydraulic back pressure
within the leak detection system. This system is intended to deduce the
likelihood of compromising the secondary clay liner by intercepting and
withdrawing leakage.
In the event that Cyanide is detected within the leak detection system
effluent, BMG shall design and implement a containment system iJo return
all effluent to the tailings impoundment, in order to prevent impact to
the environment.
Status: Satisfied - BMG has committed to repair of the primar~l liner if
a leak is detected in letter of April 16, 1992.
