Banta,
Division D:redor
As you requested I went over the calculations for the sediment pond.
According to my calculations the sediment pond is undersized. Present
capacity of the pond is 13.84 acre feet. What is required is 29.47 acre
feet. Even taking into consideration the establishment of vegetation in the
reclaimed area the pond will still be 35$ below capacity. Since the clean
water diversion has already been reclaimed we cannot ask them to re-establish
the ditch. However, we might ask them to put a couple of properly sized stock
ponds at the base of the undisturbed drainage. Since the drainage does not
have to pass through a sediment control system, we might be able to explain to
OSM that the drainage for the undisturbed area will be stored in these stock
ponds. If the above suggestion` is acceptable to the operator the sediment
pond will have adequate capacity to hold the drainage from the reclaimed area.
BK/yjb
cc: Mike Savage
3668E
