McGRTN1'
Re: Kerr Coal Company/Construction of Baffles in
Sedimentation Ponds C and D
Dear Mike:
This letter will confirm your approval of our proposed
minor revision in the construction materials to be used in the
baffles that Kerr Coal Company will construct in its sedimen-
tation ponds C and D. Specifically, we proposed and you ap-
proved the use of used conveyor belt material to construct the
baffles called for in our approved mine plan for the subject
sedimentation ponds. Kerr Coal will use belts which are 48
inches in width and 3/8 inch thick. The conveyor belts will
be fixed to steel poles on 4-foot centers with appropriate
metal stripping as a backing for the conveyor belt. This ma-
terial should prove to be more durable than the use of lumber
as originally proposed.
Kerr Coal will still use 2 X 6 wooden boards to construct
the baffle in sedimentation pond F because of the larger size
of that structure. Thank you for your attention to this
matter.
Very truly yours,
Michael S. McCarthy
MSM:bb
cc: Ms. Candace M. Thompson
