Barnhart Agency, Inc.
N ~ 212 West 13th Street
Pueblo, CO 81003 • Fax (719) 543-1329 • Ph: (719) 543-1324
March 14.2002
Diana Humphries
U. S. Army Corps of Engineers
720 North Main Street
Pueblo, CO 81003
Re: Walsenburg Sand & Gravel, Inc.
Sand Arroyo Pit, MLRB Permit No. 78-273
Dear Diana,
I hope this will brim you up to date on this project we discussed on March 12, 2002. The
attached map shows that a portion of the pern~it area involves a portion of the SE I/4 SE 1/4 Section
21, Syy'1/4 S`r~'1/4 Section 22, NWl/4 NW1/4 Section 27, and the NE1/4 NE1/4 Section 28 all in
Tovenship 28 South, Range 67 West, 6`h P. M.
According to old country records the access road is a count}' road; not a private road. The
roads in the pit are temporary depending on where mining is taking place and the last activity of
runoff in Sand Arroyo. They move to where the mining is taking place and gradually move to the
west with the mining activity. They can be obliterated by runoff from Sand Arroyo and then will be
moved to a new location. The arroyo channel makes for adequate haul road.
Mining is done with afront-end loader which loads into haul tracks to transport the sands
to a processing plant outside the arroyo as well as the permit affected area. Mining is generally 3 to
5 feet deep depending on the amount of sand available. It stops at least 2 feet above the groundwater
so none is exposed. Naturally no mining will take place any time water is flowing in the arroyo.
This will be strictly a dry pit operation with no wetlands or exposed water on site.
"Yo~!r Brand of People"
