No. C-94-001
Shawn, I just wanted to let you know that, overall, this NOV was
handled well. Issuing the NOV at the site, and documenting it in the
December inspection report, was done well. The follow-up inspection
on January 6, 1994, was prompt, and assured the abatement work was
done quickly.
Here's just a few item to be aware of, for future reference:
1. Be sure to place the NOV number in the blank at the top of
page three of the NOV form. I noticed this was missing.
2. As we discussed at the mine site, be sure in the future to place
the regulatory citations in the section of the NOV that states
"Regulation Section(s)". Statutory citations (citations from the
Act rather than the rules) go on the first line.
3. Your documentation of the locations of the "portions of the
operation" was done well. It was specific and concise.
4. The abatement step was developed well, as it was specific and
rapidly accomplishable.
5. On the Termination Notice, under "Dates of Abatement", all that's
needed is a date under "Step 1", as there is only one abatement
step. As you observed it completed on January 6, 1994, this is
the date you use for documenting the date of abatement.
6. The inspection report for the January 6, 1994 inspection was
filled out in our offices, rather than at the mine site.
Remember that inspection reports are required to be filled out at
the mine site, rather than in the office, even for follow-up
inspections.
/ern
M:\oss\ern\keenes.dih
