oaooa
Banks and Gesso, LLC
The riparian corridor along the South Platte River in this location is good wildlife habitat
and may be used by a variety of bird, mammal, reptile and amphibian species including
but not limited to the following.
Birds
• American Coot (Fulica americans)
• Barn Swallow (Nirundo rustics)
• Eastern Kingbird (Tyrannus trannus)
• Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus)
• Western Kingbird (Tyrannus verticalisJ
Mammals
• Deer Mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus)
• Mule Deer (Odocoileus hemionus)
• Raccoon (Procyon lotor)
• White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus)
Reptiles
• Plains Garter Snake (Thamnophis radix)
Amphibians
• Northern Leopard Frog (Rana pipiens)
• Woodhouse's Toad (Bufo woodhousii)
Seasonal use of the land could include migratory and resident bird summer nesting,
winter habitat for deer, and a corridor for deer during migration periods. The habitat is
suitable for small mammal, reptile, and amphibian habitat year round. The CDOW
District Wildlife Manager Mike Babler considers the area as important wildlife habitat for
deer, wild turkey, waterfowl, shore birds, eagles, and other raptors. It is not critical
habitat for any federally listed threatened and endangered species.
WWE reviewed the CDOW's NDIS (Nafural Diversity Information Source} maps for the
site and determined that habitat which is suitable to the PMJM exists along the South
Platte River within the proposed expansion area.
The Applicant is proposing to mine in the eastern portion of the expansion area within
200 to 300 feet of the South Platte River. Because mining within 300 feet of the river
would be a disturbance of existing suitable PMJM habitat, a trapping survey for the
PMJM would be required by the USFWS in the riparian area along the South Platte
River to the east of the existing mining site. However, the PMJM may be delisted in the
next several years due to new biological findings. Depending on the proposed mining
schedule for this area, several options are available regarding the PMJM in the riparian
area.
Fort Lupton Santl and Gravel Mine - L.G. Evedst, Inc.
