04004
Exhibit G -Water Information
Banks and Gesso, LLC
(This exhibit was prepared for L.G. Everist, Inc. by Wright Water Engineers, Inc.)
This section describes the water features on and near the amendment area, potential
impacts on water resources from the project, and water requirements for the project.
Surface Water
Surface water features on and near the amendment area are shown on Exhibit C-2 and
include:
Little Dry Creek, which flows along the western boundary,
• The East Lateral of the Lupton Bottom Ditch, which flows through the middle of
the area,
The South Platte River, which flows to the east of the area, and
• The 100-year flood plain of the South Platte River, which encompasses the entire
amendment area.
The drainage referred to as Little Dry Creek along the western property boundary is not
the original natural creek channel but a channel re-aligned years ago for agricultural
purposes. The drainage is a small, perennial stream that carries both the natural flow of
Little Dry Creek to the south, and irrigation return flows. The creek is also used as an
irrigation ditch. Baseflow in the creek is typically 1 to 2 cubic feet per second (cfs}.
The East Lateral of the Lupton Bottom Ditch traverses the amendment area. This lateral
carries water during the irrigation season, but is typically dry the rest of the year.
The South Platte River is located immediately east of the amendment area. Flow in the
river is controlled by upstream reservoirs and water rights diversions.
The entire amendment area is within the 100-year floodplain of the river, as shown on
FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map, Panel 868 of 1075, "Weld County, Colorado'.
Groundwater
Relatively shallow groundwater associated with the alluvial system of the South Platte
River exists beneath the amendment area and adjacent areas. Published information
shows that the general direction of groundwater flow is to the northeast, towards the
river.
The applicant has installed 16 (sixteen) piezometers to measure shallow groundwater
near the amendment area (see the following Exhibit G: Monitor Well Locations). Data
from these piezometers will be used to determine "pre-mining" groundwater levels to
enable assessment of any effects on groundwater during and post-mining.
The approximate locations of existing water wells in the vicinity of the amendment area
are shown on Exhibit C-1. These wells include both shallow alluvial wells, and several
wells completed in the Denver Basin formations. A well located south of the slurry wall
(Permit No. 56746-F) provides the process water for the operation. No water wells are
Fort Lupton Santl and Gravel Mine - L.G. Everist, Inc.
