04004 Banks and Gesso, LLC
Exhibit D -Mining Plan
Overview
The applicant proposes to add nine new parcels to the permit area that will increase the
permit area by approximately 212 acres. Approximately 165 acres of additional land will
be mined. The new mine areas will extend the fife of the mine by approximately 27-37
years with an expected mining rate of 500,000 tons per year.
From the nine new parcels, five mining phases will be created as follows:
Table D-1: Mining Phases
Phase Name Total
Acreage Mined
Acreage Estimated
Duration of
Mining (years) Dir. of Mining
Hill-Eber-Oakley
Pit 49 44 6-8 South to North
Parker-Panowicz
Pit 36 26 5-7 South to North
Swingle North Pit 48 37 6-8 South to North
Swingle South Pit 45 38 6-8 North to South
Golden Pit 34 20 4-6 West to East
TOTALS 212 165 27-37
At any given time, mining and reclamation may be occurring in one or more bonded
phases to accommodate blending of materials and relocation of the processing plant and
settling ponds. There will be times when reclamation is being completed in one phase
while mining begins in another phase. The applicant proposes to begin mining within the
Hill-Eber-Oakley Pit. The order of mining the additional phases will be determined at a
later time, and implemented via the Division's Technical Revision and phased bonding
processes.
All portions of the currently existing mine area (called the Fort Lupton Pit) will be mined
as previously stated in the original permit application (M-1999-120). The following
information pertains only to the additional five phases listed above.
Mining Methods
Each of the five pits will be dry-mined. A slurry wall may be constructed to The Office of
the State Engineer's specifications around the perimeter of each additional mine area
prior to commencement of mining in the new phases, which will isolate each mine area
from the surrounding groundwater regime and allow for dry-mining of each mine area
with minimal impact to the neighboring groundwater hydrology. However, if a slurry wall
is not feasible, the Applicant will utilize a compacted clay liner to seal the pits for the end
use as water storage.
Mining operations within each new phase area will include topsoil and overburden
stripping, and excavation of dewatering trenches, and settling ponds. Raw materials will
be excavated with excavators, front-end loaders, scrapers and/or bulldozers. As areas
Fort Lupton Sand and Gravel Mine - L.G. Everist, Inc.
