t
and there were no compliancysues.
Mr. Norlan Qunilan, the properly owner at the ncrthern boundary of the landfill, stopped by the landfill
during the inspection. He stated that he had not seen the landfill disturbed since it has been closed. He
also stated that since the landfill had closed county residents were dumping trash in the fields and bar
ditches.
One aspect of the complaint was alleged toxic waste dumping in the landfill. The EPA Coordinator, Janice
Pearson, stated that citizens could request a site investigation. The request is made by completing an EPA
form/petition. Ms. Pearson gave Mr. Hershey a petition to complete.
The SWU inspector, EPA Coordinator and several members of the County inspection group (referenced
above) proceeded to two additional locations, several miles from the landfill: CR H - 2 miles west of Mesita
and CR H - 1 mile west of Mesita. The yrave~ was oeing used fo fill in depressions and potholes in the
road. The additional locations were inspected to note if there was evidence of solid waste or toxic material
mixed with gravel being applied to County roads. There was no indication of solid waste or toxic materials
at either site or along any dirt road that was traveled to return to the highway. The road is 100 to 200 feet
from the river.
sw/cos/saa
