Due to weather and other delays, Moumain Coal Company (MCC) has been unable to complete
relining of sediment pond MB -1 and requests an extension to February 24, 1998, of abatement
step No. 1 of the above-referenced NOV. MCC has begun pumping water from the NW Panels
sealed sump through the approved Lone Pine Gulch pipeline at a shghtly higher rate than the rate
being pumped in, so the volume currently in the sump will not increase (and will, in fact, gradually
lower). The quality of the water being discharged is well within MCC's NPDES permit
limitations.
Please call should you have questions.
Sincerely,
~~~ ~~
Kathleen G.
