Exhibit Page 28
EXHIBIT I -SOILS INFORMATION
1. Source(s) of Information: USDA Soil Survey preliminary data, prepared by
NRCS Soil Survey Team, Durango, CO, and provided in hardcopy and electronic form
by Dolores Soil Conservation District.
2. Significant concerns in soils management: Prevention of water erosion, slowing
of rapid runoff, and prevention of downstream siltation.
3. Reclamation seed mix (for grasses) recommended by Natural Resources
Conservation Service for area is provided in Exhibit J.
Method of application: Drill and/or broadcast (on steeper slopes and stockpiles).
' 4. The soils map is obtained from the soils topographic map attached to a letter
from Dolores Soil Conservation District, 29 JAN 2002. No soils survey has been
published for Montezuma County. Unfortunately, the map was not of sufficient quality
' to reproduce for use, and the information has therefore been converted to an AutoCAD
map and included in this Exhibit.
' 5. The soils descriptions provided in Table B-2-1 are taken from attachments to the
same letter. Field observations have confirmed the general accuracy of the mapping
' and descriptions as being valid for this site. Most of the soil on the site appears to be.
There are many areas where cobbles appear on the surface and throughout the soil
profile.
! 6. Topsoil stripping, storage, and replacement: For planning purposes and based
on test pits, it is assumed that an average of 0.5 feet of material will be removed and
' preserved as topsoil. The objective is to provide as high quality grassland as feasible at
the end of mining activities.
