- ' III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999 QC'►SCYLCL
Comments to Marathon Response Letter File: 83-52
1 . What is disturbed acreage to date?
What is total volume of bulk sampling which has been removed to date?
What are the average pit sizes i .e. surface area and depth?
2.It is stated that no cyanide is used in the pilot plant this is not the
case. The Division feels that the cyanide extraction operation on site is
of pilot plant scale not laboratory bench scale. A small Merril-Crowe system
is onsite. Approximately 20 small cement mixers are on site for mixing
solutions with mined or sampled material . Cyanide use is not approved in the
existing permit.
Bulk Sampling may be an issue and we need a Board determination of sample size
and perhaps total annual volume. The operator states that approximately 2 tons
per week is processed in the cyanide extraction process. Also approximately 2
tons per month of mill concentrate is procesed in the cyanide extraction
process.
3. The Division thanks Marathon for thanking the Division for reminding them
of topsoil requirements, but when will actions commence to correct topsoil
handling and storage problems?
