Box 591, <br />Somerset, CO 81434, (970) 929-5015, has <br />submitted a complete application for a technical <br />revision of Reclamation and Mining Permit No. C- <br />80-007 to the Colorado Division of 1\Tinerals and <br />Geology (CDMG), ] 313 Sherman Street, Room <br />215, Denver, CO 80203 (303) 866-3567. The <br />technical revision is for a new coal waste rock <br />storage area to be known as the Refuse Pile <br />Expansion (RPE) azea, a soil stockpile area to be <br />known as the North Soil Storage area, and to widen <br />the mine entrance. The RPE will be located to the <br />east of Sylvester Gulch and will encompass <br />approximately 20 acres. The North Soil Storage <br />area is located on the north side of State Highway <br />133 directly across the mine entrance, and <br />encompasses approximately five acres. The RPE <br />and the North Soil Storage area are located within <br />100 feet of the outside right-of--way of State <br />I~ighway 133. The permit area of the West Elk <br />Mine is generally described as follows: Section 9, <br />10, 15-30, 34, 35, 36, Township 13 South, Range <br />90 West, 6th PM; and Sections 23-26, Township 13 <br />South, Range 91 West, 6th PM in Delta and <br />Gunnison Counties. This area is located on the <br />USGS 7.5 minute Somerset and Bowe quadrangle <br />topographic maps. A copy of the technical revision <br />application is available for review at the CDMG <br />office at the above address and at the Gunnison <br />County Planning Department; 200 East Vvginia <br />Avenue, Gunnison, CO 81230. Written comments <br />or objections on the application must be submitted <br />to the CDMG. A public hearing, for the purpose of <br />determining whether the interests of the public will <br />be protected by locating the RPE and North Soil <br />Storage area within 100 feet of the outside right-of- <br />way of State Fi~ighway 133, maybe requested by <br />contacting the Division in writing within 30 days <br />after the last publication of the notice. <br />
