This technical revision is to provide
updated information regarding reclamation activities at the Pit No. 1 site: Specifically, it is
proposed that a groundwater pond be removed from the reclamation plan and that other methods
of stabilization, in addition to vegetative cover, be included to support the final land use. In
addition to the discussion provided below, a revised Reclamation Plan Map is attached.
The Bestway Paving Pit No. 1 was originally permitted for sand and gravel mining in 1977. At
that time the permit-boundary included approximately 75 acres. In addition to mining sand and
gravel, it was planned that the site would contain crushing operations, an asphalt batch plant,
shop and office buildings, and material stockpiles. The proposed future land use, or goal of
reclamation, was described in the original permit as partly industrial and partly agricultural.
Perimeter pit slopes would be graded to result in slopes no steeper than 3H:1V. With the
exception of a 15-acre pond proposed for the site, the portion of the site intended for agricultural
uses would be reclaimed so that sufficient overburden and topsoil would overlie the water table.
Additionally, the reclamation plan stated that acreage at the north edge of the site would be used
to maintain the asphalt and gravel plant after all mining had been completed. .
Permit Amendment No. 1 in 1995, along with Revision No. SR-001; reduced the permit
boundary by 17 acres (see attached Reclamation Plan). Approximately 10.5 un-mined acres in
the southwest corner of the site were. removed from the permit azea. In addition, about 6.5 acres
containing the asphalt plant and office and shop azea in the northeast portion of the site were
removed from the permit area. Amendment No. 1 also changed- the final land use of the
remaining 58 acres to residential and indtistrial/commercial and reduced the size of the
anticipated pond from 15 acres to a maximum of 6 acres.
1499 West 120th Avenue, Suite 200 ~ - (303) 452-fi611 • Faz (303) 452-2759
Denver, Colorado 80234-2759 - www.applegategroup:com
'.'.1: ` - _. ..-. s.-•-L r ?,-,-- r ~ si,_. -..,-~, - sir .: -: _.._ _.:L- .:. $~-; _-. . _
