Box 3609
Grand Junction, Colorado 81502
Attention: Mr. Paul McGehee
Subject: Geologic Evaluation for the Extension of the River
Road Gravel Pit located on a part of the N=,
Section 6, Township 1 South, Range 1 West, of the
Ute Meridian, Mesa County, Colorado
As requested we have observed the site and evaluated the geology
for the referenced site, also known as 2273 River Road. The gravel
pit was originally named the Hagie Gravel Pit and later changed to
the River Road Gravel Pit. The existing pit is located between the
City of Fruita and Grand Junction, south of the Denver and Rio
Grande Western railroad line, which parallels the south side of
U.S. Highway 6 and 50. The extension will be located at the
southeast corner of the existing pit and will include 9.33 acres of
which only 6.3 acres will be effected.
Based on drill log data provided, drill holes were spaced at
approximately 100 to 200 feet on centers, with a total of 18 holes
drilled. The drill logs indicate 3 to 14 feet of fine grained
soils over silty sand, gravel and cobbles. The fine grained and
granular overburden soils are overlying the Mancos shale foundation
at depths ranging from 17 to 26 feet below the existing grade.
Per soil series maps the shallow fine grained soils in the area are
classified as Billings Silty Clay (Ba & Be) which are silty clays
to silty clay loams. The Billings soil generally have slow to very
slow permeability, moderate to high salt content and a low organic
content.
.
