SHELTON, Director
September 11, 1984
Mr. Vance Mills
Trinidad Basin Mining, Inc.
P.O. Box 783
Trinidad, Colorado 81082
•
Re: Adequacy Concerns on Technical Revision for Additional Sediment Control
in Pit No. 5 (Pond 15-P20A, Dike TD-1 and 2) (Our File C-048-81)
Dear Mr. Mills:
Candy Thompson of our office has the following concerns which need to be
resolved prior to the Division approving this revision.
Sediment Pond 15-P 20A
The screw-on cap design for the PVC dewatering pipe has proven to give
problems at the TBM mine. The caps are frequently missing. Some method of
disallowing non-controlled removal of the caps must be submitted.
Ditch 7D-2
The point at which the proposed ditch meets the existing ditch, appears to be
at least 5 feet downgrade of Pond 15-Pg. The applicant should resubmit a
drainage control plan for this area. An alternate approach could be
considered such as routing drainage from Td-1 and TD-2 through culverts under
the haul road to a sediment pond located on the south side of the haul road.
Ditch TD-1
A properly sized culvert is needed where this ditch passes under the haul road.
If you have any questions please feel free to call.
Sincerely,
Michael S.
