Please provide specifications of the fill indicated on the map. As I recall, this area was
subject to heavy erosional flows last spring and will require a significant, non-erosive
structure to direct flows around the nearly 90 degree turn that exists at that point. The
native non-cohesive material that last years berms were constructed of, may not be adequate
for this structure;
2. Please extend the contour lines on the map, well beyond the permit boundary, so effects
of the concentrated flow from the diversion ditch outlets can be evaluated;
3. Given the unconsolidated, non-cohesive nature of the materials available for construction
of these structures, the site will need to be inspected as soon as it is accessible in Spring
1 997 to evaluate the effectiveness of these structures.
Please respond to these comments by March 21, 1997 so the decision due date of March 26, 1 997
can be met.
If you have questions or need additional information, please contact me at our Durango Field Office,
484 Turner Drive, Building F, Room 101, Durango, Colorado 81301, phone no. (970) 247-5062.
Sincerely,
-~ /~
Steve S. Shuey
Environmental Protect Specialist
