Deg!. of r~, :..
o OWir1V:CV!!
To tine editor:
What is happening to my town! Today I
called and soolce with the urban developer
at the city hall. After giving her my name
I told her that I had heard heron the radio
giving a report on what had taken place at
a city meeting on the evening of June 29
concerning Solders' Aggregate, Inc. at ZO1
Tunnel Dr. Rd. She stated that she would
be delighted to tell me what had happened.
She began by saying that the meeting had
Caen canceled because the city didn't have
any jurisdiction in the matter but that the
city felt that things are not right and that
they are going to hire a surveyor to mace
sure that Spiders are not on city property.
She went on to state that if I would like to
get in touch with Ed Camerlo he could
steer me in the right direction if I would
like to make any protests against Spiders
Aggregate. Ta:cing into consideration that
I had not told her whether or not I was for
or against Spiders' Aggregate she went on
to give out damaging information against
em.
' ~r First of all I would lice to :mow since
when is a city employee paid to give their
own opinions and criticisms against
taxpayers on city time. It is this tax-
payer's opinion that if she has any per-
sonal opinions about anything she should
~ I;:eep them to herself and no[ try to bias the
~ubltc one way or the other. After a:1 city
fC.~ployees are not paid to bad mouth the
taxpayers. She also stated that as far as
she knows that there are not very many
people who are in favor of the Spiders. To
that remar!c I say that she had better do a
little more checldng on this subject of
who's for who before she starts counting,
for after hearing her very biased
statements and doing a little research an
my own I am now 100 percent in
Srdders' Aggregate.
Petitions have been signed by
of people Eor the Spiders and
these may be seen at the city pia r
zoning, mayors.office and the rou
house.
Do the people in Canon City realiie~tiow
much revenue and jobs have txen bxop~h4.
into this area 6ecausa of Srtide"r`s',
Aggregate? Cr the Ezct that th'e~t'~e•"r
taking every precaution mitt the wo~;k,t~t~.
they are doing. Such as wa[crip~'p antl.
grading Tunnel Drive.Road regularly~to
seep down dust, which they do no! hav¢ to
do, and hiring a consultant out of Denver to
monitor their blasting to ensure the"safety"
of anyone living near, and ti:e water plant.
On the contrary to whit the cih~s' urban
developer woild have us belie~~P, there are
countless numbers of people m favor of
Spiders, a large amount living r:rtt next
door to the people who aze again; SuWers.
These people say that Spiders are riot
bothering them and are not z rie ace. To L,
as:c myself, why does the City aryl tt,i one:
employee choose to listen iA sec: u: [n..
people who are complaining, and side wiUi
them, and not even check iota the numtr~r:
of people with Spiders and their side of thz
story? My response, I have lived in Gahon%:
City for 30 years and would like to see it•
grow but with city employees and officials"
like this we'll dry up and 61uw away fore
sure.
,,,., ,.
Walce-up Canon LSty to what is Koing on~
in our town before a handful of people;anA ~,
our very biased city officals stamp out'any,;'
hope we have for the future and' a.little
prosperity for this town. i S.
Sincerely`
- Melba Steel
,.:-.
Ceuoni'il
~, ~ ~-
,y~i~ll~.'~ A~
