-~
CONTRACTORS•ENGINEERS
III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
NARRISON WESTERN CORPORATION
March 27, 1979
Mr. Rick Mills
Reclamation Specialist
Colorado Department of
Mined Land Reclamation
Suite 723
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Mr. Mills:
Natural Resources
Board
This letter is in response and to clarify the points made in our
meeting of March 12, 1979.
Harrison Western Corporation and Peltron Energy, Inc. are
planning the development of an underground mining operation
for the recovery of coal from a property located in Garfield
County, Colorado. These tracts of land are located within
Township 5 South, Range 91 West, and Township 5 South,
Range 92 West.
• Peltron Energy, Inc. has by lease agreement with the owners of
the surface and fee coal obtained, the right to explore, develop,
and operate a mine for the recovery of coal from the subject
property.
• Currently, two small independent mine operators are mining
coal from separate mine adits on the property. Their production
is very limited and the surface disturbances are relatively
small. Both mines can probably be considered limited impact
operations.
• The current mine operators have not filed adequate permit
applications or developed reclamation plans in compliance with
the Colorado and Federal statutes. The Mined Land Reclamation
Board has recently taken preliminary enforcement action
against the current operators.
~ Closure of the operations would be a financial hardship on
the two current operators, whose livings are derived from
the mine operations.
• Preparation of permit applications and development of
reclamation plans for the areas that would be affected by the
mining program currently under consideration by Harrison Western
Corporation and Peltron Energy, Inc. can be prepared and
submitted during the next six months.
continued..........
